(Received 9.25 a.m.) LONDON, August 19.. . The War Cabinet's report for 1918 gives the grand total of Enipire troops, exclusive of the Labour and Chinese units, at 8,654,467. Th e total casualties, including prisoners and missing, were 3,061,421. The naval tonnage was siic and a half millions.
Motor boats, with five submarines, which were sent to the Baltic in June to protect <th e mine-sweepers, were fifty-five feet long, and had a speed of over forty-two miles. They carried on guns, but had two torpedoes each, which were dropped astern tail first, necessitating each motor boat rapidly swerving to escape its own torpedo.—A. and N.Z.
