nouncing- that JLieut. Alec Jack has sadled for New Zealand by the Adolpli Woerinann. -Mr Edwards, of YVaikiekie, whose health has been indifferent 'of iate, ihas left the district for a fortnight's holiday in tlie city. Key. F. 11. Spencer, the agent of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and the writer of several Maori books and pamphlets, and who has been touring in the district, returned to Auckland to-day. Mr F. Goodhue, recently with tthe Public Works Department, and at present proprietor of the Taheke Hotci, is spoken of as a candidate fior the Taheke riding in place ol Councillor Me Beth, resigned, says the "Niortiheini .News." Mr Flewellyn*. secretary to the Wihangarei [Municipal Silver Bajid Committee, received a letter yesterday froim Mr Edward Smith stating thiat he would be prepared to accept an engagement as conductor of tlhe local band. It appears tihat ihe hias been asked tlo resume the conductorship of his old band in Dunedin, but for health reasons he prefers to stay in the North.

The annual election of officers of the Kaipara Branch, of the New Zealand Labour Party took place on Thursday eventitng and resulted as follows:—President, Mr G.McCully; vicepresidents, Messrs A. Gregory and H Knight; committee, Afesisrs T. Bennett, A. Cowie, J. W. Ylarnall and Mesdames T. Bennetit and A.-Gregory; Mr O. Berglind being re-elected secretary and treasurer unopposed.
