SMASHED ON THE CHINA.

O VEUWIiELMiN U . SUHPRISE

LONDON, August 14

The Archangel army's victory secured over the Bolsheviks on the Dvina front was absolute and complete. The attacking tioops marched through forests on both banks of the river on a dark night, capturing or avoiding th e enemy patrols, and took up positions in cue enemy's rear and flank.

The first enemy notification of their presence was a hurricane bombardment from xiussian and British batteries and gunboats. Motor launches heavily armed and machineguns co-operated. The extreme mobility of th e launches was most effective. All points of possible resible retreat were guarded by detachments of Russian cavalry. The enemy was completely surrounded and ceased fire. Simultaneously British forces charged all the villages with the bayonet. There was much hand-to-hand fighting, though many surrendered immediately. Fifteen hundred were taken prisoner at one spot and many 'were killed, practically none of the six battaliions engaged escaped. Most of the enemy guns and machine-guns were captured. Our casualties are believed to be of the lightest. All objectives were reached, and there are no enemy troops north of Kotlas, A further advance is not anticipated.— Reuter.
