"FLAGRANT PERJURY."
COMMITTED AT DARGAVILLE.
'MAUNGATUROTO MAN INVOLVED.
FOUR MONTHS' HARD LABOUR.
.AUCKLAND, This Day.
Sentences was imposed by Mr Justice Chapman at the Supreme Court on David Richard Logan Baldiston, stock dealer and farmer, of Kaiwaka and Maungaturoto, for perjury committed at Dargaviile on June 10th lust.
The jury returned a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy in the interests of the .wife and family of accused.
His Honour said that he would give due weight to the jury's recommendation, although he did .not agree that the reason was a very sound one. The punishment, however, would have been much heavierbut for the recommendation of the jury. He had never known a more flagrant, case of perjury. TJie.gpnly thing he could say was that accused's act did not injure any individual. He would be sentenced to four months' imprisonment with, hard labour.—P.A. »
