WOMEN PASTORS.
In French Protestant Churches the absence of pastorSj who were serving at the war, has compelled many congregations to take the—in France— novel step of calling in the aid of laymen. Even women's help has been thankfully accepted. Thus at Raonl'Etape, in the Vosges, the pastor's
wife (Madame Koespui), aided by a Mademoiselle Roe-cken, kept up unbroken the church services, the Sunday school, and the Thursday Bible class. Sometimes the two ladies "had to conduct funeral services. The many Romanists, whom kinship or friendship led to attend these, were amazed—and perhaps instructed— by witnessing the .ministry of women. This excellent example affords a useful hint.f«r many a struggling congregation the other side of the Straits of Dover, and elsewhere.
