NGUNGURU

■Shipping.—Arrivals and departures during the week: Alma, Alert, Oneralii. Combine and Herald scows, also the aux. scow llrela. Tui, for the Northern Goal Company. The scow Moa arrived on Wednesday and is loading logs (sinkers for D. Goldie and Sons. The Moa is the vessel commandeered by Count yon Luekner and«other Germans who escaped from Motuihi in a motor Jaunch and were captured at the LYrraadec Islands and brought back prisoners to New Zealand. .

A most enjoyable social and dance was held in the Tutukaka schoolhouse on the Bth, in honour of Mr and Mrs Carpenter. On the arrival of the newly-married couple, they met with a"shower of confetti and a hearty welcome home. They intend to reside on the property of Mr C. Grant. Every good wish, was expressed for their future welfare.

Signs of spring are to be seen on every hand. Alniond trees are in full blossoan, and some of the late peaches are biTrsting; their buds. Ferguson left for Wliangarei on Tuesday with her sister, Mrs Wells, and son. (a returned soldier), who are on their way to Auckland.

Mr V.-Owens was here for a days and left on Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Fleming, from Auck-i land, arrived on Tuesday and are staying at the Ngunguru Hotel. ( Mr K. Carpenter has returned from J Auckland. He was a witness in the I Grant divorce case.
