MAUNGATAPERE.
FAREWELL SOCIAL,
Towards the end of last week a large gathering of people met in the hall to bid farewell to Mr and. Mrs David Kerr, who are about to leave Maungatapere to take up their residence in Whangarei. As a token of appreciation, their friends presented them with a silver cake dish, pair of motoring gloves and a tobacco pouch. Mr Morrison, as usual, made the presentation. In his speech he spoke highly of the departing family, stating that the fact that so many were •present upon this occasion was ample proof of the high esteem in which the family is held, Mr Kerr briefly responded. He thanked those present for their kind gifts and also for their good wishes. He reminded the company that he wasn't going very far and that he would probably visit the district from time to time to keep up old acquaintances.
Dancing was he chief amusement, and»under the direction of Mr A. H. Mainwaring, was a source of unbroken pleasure to those who participated. Card-playing continued throughout the evening. The ladies provided a dainty and bountiful supper after which all joined in singing "Auld Lang Syne."
