BAY OF ISLANDS SEAT.

MR JOUNNEAUX , CANDIDATURE,

The aspirant for the Bay of Islands seat, Mr St. Clair Jounneaux, is a man of considerable experience and a settler of thirty-five years standing in New Zealand. He came to this country at the age of sixteen years, and the early death of his fathe r left him very little but the responsibilities of a man and a sound heart to tackle life's struggle. He took to the country and gained experience on sheep runs. At eighteen he made one of a syndicate to charter a schooner, in which about thirty of them set off for the Kimberley gold rush. After an adventurous time he arrived back safely in New Zealand, and he got a position with a business firm. At he bought out a small store, etc., the business of which he soon developed. But Nature and the land has always been his heart's desire, and he has been connected with farming for nearly thirty years. His first venture in land was the purchase of the lease of a small grazing run near BransIbe'tfh, Wairarapa. Time .brought several changes, and 'previous to residence in the Auckland Province h e had the Te Matai and Ruakawa properties at Palmerston North. There he was on the committee of the A. and P. Association for some years. He is now sheep and cattle farming in the Bay of Islands electorate and Kamo. Taking a keen interest in the Farmers' Union, he has been president of the Whangarei Sub-provincial Executive, is now its delegate, a member of the Sheep Breeders' Committee for the Auckland Province, and delegate of the Auckland Executive to the Dominion Conference. He is a keen sport, a believer in fair play, independent, of a cosmopolitan ture, and a good fighter for any cause he can be induced to take up. His idea of the way to succeed is, hard work, thrift, clean sport, enterprise, and backbone. Since settling in this country he has travelled a good deal in different parts of the world, including America and the Northern territory of Western Australia.
