CLASH IN PARIS.
VIOLENT U.S. SCENES
(Received 8 a.m.) LONDON, May 2. In Paris yesterday infantry and cavalry reinforced the gendarmerie to prevent May Day demonstrators marching to the Place de la Concorde. The crowd twice broke the military cordon, whereupon the firemen turned hoses on the mob. Many heads were broken in baton charges. The riots were continued last night, the demonstrators attempting to barricade the streets, but mounted troops charged the mob. Many were wounded, including Deputy Cochin and the editor of "L'Humanite." NEW YORK, May 1. Soldiers and sailors stormed a May Day Labour demonstration in Madison Square. The New York police reserve dispersed the crowd, who left three dead.
I.W.W. riots were also started in Cleveland, Ohio, when soldiers seized a Red Flag carried in the procession. —A. and N.Z.
