HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING.
A good meeting of householders was held on Monday night about 23 l-eing present. Mr A. E. Phillips was voted to th e chair. After renewing the work of the year Mi-
lullips stated that he would not eek re-election this year (h e was hairman last year).
Nominations for committeemen were received, 7 candidates offered, ;:iid the following was the result:— <i. Morrison 22, Hargreaves 18', C. Stevens 14, Wilkinson 14, W. Sirl 12, P. Trigg 11, E. Armstrong 10, informal 1. The first five wer c declared duly elected. The new committee met later and elected Mr Morrison to the chair The school roll is falling; it now stands at 6G, against 75 at the time of agitation for removal. This fact I is very significent. A GRIEVOUS INCIDENT. A large and representative gathering of sympathetic friends and mourning relatives assembled at the graveside of the late Mr Cecil Gillett, whose tragic death was so sudden and unexpected. The Rev. G. C. Cruickshank conducted the service. The young man Avas popular in the district, having mad e many friends. H e was for some months instructor in ' boxing to the Maungatapere Boy ■ Scouts. H e was drowned whilst boating with some friends, in the Wairua River. PERSONAL ITEMS. During the last week Private Robert Wilkinson, third son of Mrs John Wilkinson, lias returned from Egypt, and is looking well. Private George Stevens, who has been a prisoner of war in Germany, has returned, and is fit and well. He is already busy on the farm. Sergt. Frank Woodward, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Woodward, also returned from France. Mr George Hargreaves has come back from Auckland after *a fewdays' business trip. Whilst away he purchased a French motor ear. • Mr Trevor Barbour, who has been" spending a few weeks in Auckland, is home again. Mr L. Markham, the secretary of the local dairy company, has speculated in an automobile. Mr Paulger has returned to duty after a month's holiday down south. Mr Joe Leaf has expressed his intention to take a holiday trip .to the Old Country. I believe he sails in a week or two.
