CONSTERNATION IN AUCKLAND,
AUCKLAND, Dec. 9,
The Makura left for Sydney at 5.15 p.m. on Sunday. The New Zealand passengers were landed in Auckland at 6 p.m., the Southerners catching the Main Trunk express. Later: Unexpected developments took place yesterday in connection with the quarantine of the Makura. Practically the whole of the New Zealand passengers were brought to Auckland and allowed to go to their homes or hotels. Passengers for south of Auckland joined the Main Trunk train at Penrose Junction in the evening. Among those who remained on Motuihi Island were Professor H. D. Brown and his two daughters, who decided to remain at Motuihi pending arrangements as to their future movements. t The Makura was allowed to leave for Sydney at 5.15 p.m. No cargo was unloaded.
Dr. Valintine, prior to his departure for Wellington last evening, said that ten passengers, some of whom were contacts and others "suspicious cases," had been detained at MJtuihi. He was convinced that the other, New Zealand passengers released had;not come into contact with any sickness on board since quarantine was first established on the Maj kura on December 1. He therefore | felt justified in releasing the pasj sengers.-Opress Assn.
