READY FOR THE WORST
GRIM DETERMINATION
(Received 10.15.) LONDON, Dec. 6. Sir Frederick Smith, speaking at Liverpool, said it was now possible to reveal that during the dark days of April all preparations were made to carry to these islands the scattered remains of the British forces if the Germans succeeded in drivinp; a wedge between the British and French armies. If the British had been crushed Mr Lloyd George was determined to fight on with British and United States warships while a single vessel flew the British flag—A. and N.Z. and R.
