CONSPIRACY CHARGES.

WIFE'S LIABILITY RULED OUT.

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 7. In the Magistrate's Court to-day Arthur Patrick McGuire, Janet McGuire (his wife), Cecil Charles McCullough, and Fredk. John Wormald were charged with conspiring to defraud W. J. Cupples of £194 4s between December, 1915, and October 29, 1918,

The charges of obtaining this amount by false pretences were withdrawn.

Evidence having been heard, counsel submitted that a wife was not liable to be brought in guilty of conspiracy with her husband. The point was upheld, and the female accused was discharged. The others Pleaded not guilty and were committed for trial. Bail was allowed. —Press Assn.
