FAT STOCK

Yesterday at our weekly Westfield fat stock market our supply of beef totalled 326 head, comprising 194 steers, 126 cows and heifers, and 6 bulls. There was a keen demand throughout, with values fully up to late sales. Choice ox sold to £2 13s per 1001b, prime ox £2 10s to £2 12s, rough and ordinary £2 to £2 Ss per 1001b; cow and heifer beef £2 2s to £2 8s per 1001b. Steers ranged in prices from £13 10s to £23 ss, There was a heavy yarding of sheep, which mot with spirited competition, all classes being in demand, and generally there was an improvement in values from last week's sale. Extra heavy prime woolly wethers, £2 7s to £2 8s 6d; medium to heavy prime shorn wethers, i'l 14s 6d to £1 18s 6d; lighter shorn wethers, £1 11s to £1 14s; unfinished and light shorn wethers, £1 8s to £1 11s; unfinished two-tooth wethers, £1 3s to £1 Gs 6d; extra heavy prime woolly ewes, £2 Is to £2 ss; heavy woolly ewes, £1 l'?s 6d to &'l 0b Cd, shorn, £1 9s (3d to £1 12s; other fat shorn ewes, £1 6s to £1 8s 6d; other ewes, 19s to £1 4s; fat woolly hoggets, £1 16s 6d to £1 19s 6d;; other woolly hoggets, £1 11s to £1 15s 6d (2464 sheep sold). Lambs came forward in increased numbers, and met with a ready sale, all primo lambs, of which there was a large number, realised last week's figures. Small and unfinished were easier. Best heavy prime made from £1 9s to £1 12s 9d; good prime, £1 5s to £1 8s Gd; lighter,£l Is to £1 4S 6d; light and unfinished, 15s to 19s 6cl; small and young, 10s to 14s (405 sold). We penned 115 fat and young calves. The yarding was abov« requirements, and all classes were considerably lower. Runners made from £ 4 10s to £9 10s for a two-year-old heifer; vealers, heavy, £3 10s to £4 ss; medium, £2 10s "tq £3 fis; HttliV, i'l l!?a tq £2 Hα; small and fresh-dropped, 8s tv £1 10s. We had a full market of pigs. Choppers were not required, with other sorts slightly lower. Large choppers and heavy baconers made from £5 to £6 ss; small choppers and light baconers, £4 to £4 17s 6d; porkers, large, £3 10s to £3 18s; medium, £2 15s to £3 8s; small, £2 to £2 12s; suckers and weaners, 12s to £1 15s (403 sold).
