HUKERENUI BRANCH

A meeting of the above branch was held at Mr J. Broomfield's residence on September 16, at 7.30 p.m., there being present Messrs T. G. Hight (chair), J. Broomfield, J. King, G. King, F. C. Elliott, A. Coutts, R. Brigham, and W. A. Kerr (secretary).

On the motion of Messrs J. King and Kerr Mr H. Beardsell was elected a member of the branch.

The following motion was carried: "That this branch protests against remits being amended without being again referred to branches for confirmation. NEW REMIT.

That this branch urges that provision be made to give free membership to returned soldier settlers to any branch for one year. Remits from sub-provincial executive No. 1 as amended to be endorsed.

No. 2—Owing to the year being so far advanced it was deemed inadvisable to support remit, it being thought that the new remit proposed by this branch would prove more satisfactory. '*

No. 4.—Marsden Point reserve; agreed to support.

Nos. 5 and 6.—Hikurangi electrl city and drainage; to be supported.

No. B.—Hukerenui kauri gum reserve; to be reaffirmed. No. 9.—Stock by weight; agreed to support.

No. 10.—Assessment Court. To be opposed on the ground that the proposal will not afford a satisfactory solution of this question.

No. 12.—Merchandise census; resolved to oppose remit. No. 13.—Shipping facilities; to be endorsed by this branch. No. 14.—Marketing wool; to be supported. Portland-Oakleigh Gap.—That Mr Vernon Reed, M.P., has the support of this branch in his contention that the handing over to the Railway Department would delay completion of the through line. A very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr and Mrs Broomfield for the use of their dining-room for the branch meetings -during the winter months. It was decided to approach the A.P. and I. Association for the use of their office for meetings during the sum- j mer months. Date of next meeting.—To be left to the secretary to arrange.
