Cream is coming into the Whangarei dairy factory at present in rapidly increasing quantities and with the exception of Sunday hours the staff is again working full time.

The entry of stock at the Whangarei sale yesterday was exceptionally large. Estimates placed the number at about 3000. A big yarding is expected also at Kamo to-day. Generally speaking prices were satisfactory. Preparations are now complete for the Athletic v. United football match at Kensington Park to-mor-row. Players are in good form and the ground will be dry and fast. Opinions differ as to the merits of the teams, but no long odds are given either way. All are agreed, however, that the contest will bo a keen one. The gate-money is to be devoted to the Rugby Union accident fund and the action should appeal to present day players and old-timers alike.

I The by-election campaign in Wcli lington Central is producing some ! lively interludes. The "New Zealand Times" reports as follows:— ' Compliments flew thick and fast at . certain stages of Mr Mack's meeting at the Te Aro Mission Hall last night. "You are all Britishers," urged the chairman (Mr J. H. Watt), "Give the candidate British fair play." A voice from the gallery: "You look like a Hun." (Laughter.) The chairman: "I have seen a good many Huns better looking than you." (Renewed laughter.) At the annual meeting of the Waipu Dairy Company (says the "Advocate's" Ruakaka correspondent) the chairman announced that the Northern Shipping Company had decided to raise the freight on butter to Is 4_d a box, or to £2 9s a ton. The freight on ordinary merchandise is approximately £1 ss, so that for the special privilege of placing a tar- j paulin over the butter the N.S.S. Co. [ adds a trifle of £1 4s to ordinary' rates, The directors were empowered by the large body of shareholders present, to endeavour to arrange for an independent shipping service, in order to give the district a more satisfactory and less expensive means of marketing their commodities." I

There was a very fair attendance at the dance given in the Parochial Hall last night by the United Football Club. Capital music was provided by Miss Bessell and extras were played by Misses White and Pickmere and Mr Stout. The proceeds, which were in the vicinity of £5 go to the Soldiers' Club.
