HIKURANGI CO-OPERATIVE

During the past twelve months the Hikurangi Co-operative Dairy Company has had a very good year under the circumstances, though the total output will be approximately ten tons under that of last season. "The quality of the cream," said ! the manager, when interviewed, has been very good on the whole, though the spring feed during January was inclined to have a weakening effect upon the body of the butter. The whole of the butter for the season has been first grade, the points averaging 91.75, this being in excess of the previous year by 1.35 points. The supply has been well maintained right through the year though better in the latter part of the season. The tonnage for December was over 70, February's output being considerably better than that of last October." ADDITIONS. The cream receiving stage has been renovated and a new testingroom replaced the old one, a total of £280 being spent. New pasteurisers and coolers have been installed, the plant at the present time being ,quite up to the average of the , Dominion for butter making. From appearances at the present time the output will be maintained throughout the winter months. PIG FARM. The pig farm is shaping well and is !in thorough working order all the : , fences having been built and the ne--1 cessarv plant for dealing with, and feeding the pigs erected. There are at the present time about 350 pigs on the farm which means that the : comnanv's buttermilk is being put to Inrofitable use. A recent visitor | from Taranaki said of this farm that it was one of the finest he had seen in the Dominion and that he would recommend any company to go in for such an establishment.
