(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Ecnoes of the commotion, not to mention agitation, re the cattle yard location, have reached me here in isolation. One can share the refined objection as to cattle emanation being within radiation of charming human habitation. In these days of education, and wise talk of reconstruction, there is increasing conviction that the notion of necessity of flesh-food is a superstition. But, at the present stage of evolution, the people of the nation regard the soldier ration of meat as an infallible dispensation. So the long long trail of four-footed creation on the way to destruction must go on without obstruction. But all ideas of beautifieation and town planning organisation, view with detestation the authorisation of accumulation, for even a brief duration, of mobs of cattle at the proposed situation. Aesthetic aspiration and quiet rumination are not helped by the thought and sound of the animals awaiting execution. The future generation will hot regard with acclamation but with indignation the present suggestion. What about a consulation, with a dej sire for pacification of the section of the population that clamours for protection from a threatened abomination? A little imagination plus meditation plus idealisation without obscuration, will surely result in registration and proclamation of a more distant site for segregation. In walks for recreations one does not favour introduction to animals in tribulation on the way to cessation. The bulging eyes and frontal (h)ornamentation are infliction, and arouse thoughts of molestation. The intensification of all sound fraternisation, by kindly mental vibration and outer exemplification is the consumation and objectivation of this peregrination.—Yours, DAVID W. MILLER. Takahiwai, Marsden Point, February 12, 1918.
