Shephard and Company, of Kinemacolbr faihe, arrived in Whangarei this morning to open a twonight season at the Britannia. Private M. Healey, killed in action on June 5, was before enlisting employed by the Huntly Brick and Firoclay Company. was a keen cricketer, and was known in Hikurangi. A Press Association telegram from Hawera records the death of Mr JtJhn Christie, journalist, ifSr some" years editor of the Hawera "Star" and Ashbuftoii "Guardian. ,, Previously he was on the literary staff of the North Otago "Times" at Oamaru. He married a daughter of the late Mr George Searle, a journalist well known in Invercargill and Wellington over thirty years ago. He is survived by two daughters, resident in Australia. Mr Christie was a man of exceptional literary ability, and, apart from his journalistic work, published several books of poems and essays, which received high commendation from leading newspapers.
