PERSONAL.
The appointment of Miss R. A. MeLeod as relieving teacher at Onerahi has been authorised by the Education Board. This morning two Now Zealand Board of Trade members, Messrs W. G. McDonald asd P. Hally, with the Board secretary, Mr J. W. C. Collins, arrived in Whaugarei per ss. Ngapuhi from Auckland. Pending the sitting of the Board this afternoon a visit by motor was made to the Wairua. Falls hydro-electric power station. Mr A. F. MeUlrum, of Victoria College, one of the two Rhodes scholars for 1917, is 21 years of age, and is the sou of Lieutenant-Colonel Meldrum, | formerly of Hunterville, but now in charge of the Now Zealand mounted troops stationed in .Egypt. The new Rhodes scholar received most of his pre-university education at the Wanganui Collegiate School. When only 17 years old he gained the Senior National Scholarship, and, entering Victoria College, had a distinguished scholastic career, until he went to Samoa '.villi the Expeditionary Force. Returning, he again took up his studies in which he was remarkably successful, and then again enlisted, leaving for th , front seveiiil months ago as a sergeant The latest advice regarding him is th;r be is in hospital in England, suffering from wounds in the hands.
