CROWN LANDS BALLOT.

NORTH AUCKLAND AREAS,

A ballot for blocks of land totalling (1090 acres open to the general public as distinct from the returned soldiers' ballot, was conducted by the Auckland Lands Board on Thursday. The sections were offered under two schedules. Under the first the land can be purchased for cash, or selected on occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease. The land in the second schedule comprises national endowment land, and can be selected on renewable lease only. There was only one section of 51 acres 1 rood 34 perches of first-class land in the first schedule. This was situated in the Whangarei County, Mangakahia Survey District. Mrs K. W. Webb, Titoki, was the winner, out of 33 applicants. The section is No. 21, block XIL, 51 acres 1 rood 24 perches, IS miles from Whangarei by cart road, 15 acres rich river fat, balance undulating fern and manuka country, capital value £260.

Among the second-class areas in the first schedule were the following: —- Section 23, block XIV., 236 acres 3 roods, one mile and a half from Waimamaku, undulating broken land in heavy mixed forest, capital value £•"■3O, H. J. Page, on active service; seven applicants. Section 2-4, block XIV., 294 acres, two miles from Waimamaku, about 120 acres old kauri workings, balance mixed bush, capital value £340, T. Wylie, Waimamaku; nine applicants. Section 1, block X., <-)23 acres 2 roods 38 perches, ten miles from Kaihu, broken land covered with light and heavy bush, capital value £560, D. J. Skillem, on active service; only applicant. Section 123, 1:15 acres, three miles from Kawakawa railway station, several acres river flat, balance hilly and undulating, capital value £100. L. Allen, Paiaka; only applicant. The ballot under the second schedule resulted as follows:—Section 3a, block V , 104 acres, fifteen miles from Hangatikj railway station, broken land, part burnt bush, balance medium mixed bush, capital value £290, F. Baker, Onehunga; two applicants. Section •«, block XI., 752 acres, twelve miles from Taheke, undulating to hilly land, covered with heavy mixed bush, capital value £470, L. J. Brockliss, Oue, Hokianga; only applicant. Section 12, block. XV., 2SO acres, Ilokianga, capital value £295; E. J. Powick, on active service; two applicants. Section 13, block XV., 388 acres 2 roods, Ilokianga, capital value £340, M. A. Letts, Waiotomaramara; only applicant. Section 14, block XV., 315 acres, Hokianga, capital value £320; not applied for. Section 15, block XV., 2(i" acres, Hokianga, capital value £280, O. L. White, Waimatnaku. Section 16, block XV., 2(17 acres 2 roods, six to seven miles from Waimaiuaku, undulating to broken land, covered with heavy to mixed bush, capital value £2SO; not applied for. Section 17, block XV., IS2 acres, six miles and three-quarters from Waimamaku, undulating , land, covered with heavy mixed bush, capital value £205; not applied for.
