The "Daily Chronicle's" Paris correspondent says: Afcer three weeks quiet the French, south of the S amine, won a brilliant victory in a battle at Govent, in which the Tenth French Army under General Michelen straightened the German salient into line over a section four miles long, nearly approaching the Berny-Chaul-nes road. The French batteries on Hill 109, near Covent, cover all the enemy positions to the Somme. C'hanlnes is in the same predicament as Thiepval and Combles- Sixteen days ago General yon Kathen, commanding th e Silesian, Bavarian and Wurteniburg troops, fought hard, counterattacking xive times with much vigour in the region of Ablaincourt and Chaulnes Woods, which bristle with machine-guns.
