PUSHED WITH GREAT SUCCESS.
WITHIN THIRTEEN -MILES OF
TRIESTE.
Australian and IvZ. Cable Association
(Press Assn.—Reed. 9.5 p.m.) ROME, October 12
The offensive was preceded for five days by an intense artillery bombardment and great aerial activity. As a result of the fighting the Austrians have suffered the heaviest reverse since General Cadorna's offensive fearly in August. The weather has recently made progress most difficult. The Duke of Aosta commanded the attacking army, which is the same one which covered itself with glory at Gorizia. The assaults resulted in the Italians capturing several elaiborately fortified lines, bringing the Italian front within 13 miles of Triste. General Cadorna's push is further proof of the. unity of the Allies. It Vas intended to assist Roumania, which is hard pressed in Transylvania, and also to prevent Austria reinforcing the Lemberg front.
