SUNK OFF BELGIUM
AIRSHIP LIE.
('Press Assn. —Reed. 5.25 p.m.)
LONDON, May 8.
The Admiralty announces that the statement that a German airship sank a British submarine is false. On the contrary the submarine returned uninjured and reports that she damaged the airship by gun fire and drove her off.
The destroyer, the Maori, operating off the Belgian coast was mined and sunk two miles to the north-west or the Wellington lightship. The crews took to the boats. The Crusader went to their assistance, but the enemy' 3 shore batteries opened fire. The Crusader after being under fire for 1% hour had to leave the boats and retire.
German sources Teport that the Maori's crew and the boats' crews of the Crusader, seven officers and eighty-eight men were taken pri-
soners to Zeebrugge
