, (Press Assn.—Reed. 10.50 p.m.) LONDON, April 20. Sir John Frenich's bulletin say's: "•Improvement in the weather has resulted in increased aerial activity, to our advantage. British airmen drove oft three Taubes In the Ypres region on Sunday and then-continue! the reconnaissance. "The enemy heavily shelled our trenches near Saint, Elsi and exploded ■';>. mine, ; injuring the parapets, which were promptly repaired. v •'The enemy suffered heavily by, an explosion on Hill 60, immediately followed by an attack.'which gained us possession of the whole of the enemy's trenches on the hill. We put the trenches into a state of defence during Saturday night, despite a heavy bombardment, which caused many casualties. The enemy, resumed the bombardment towards morning- and made a determined co"nter-attack at 6.30. This attack -.was'; pressed home and stiff hand-to-hand fighting en-: sued. Our'(infantry showed great gallantry and determination, and be-; ing well supported by artillery'completely drove off the enemy.: Our losses were heavy, but ; thosV of the Germans were more severe, particularly from machine guns, which caught them in mass formation. The enemy repeated their desperate efforts throughout Sunday. , We retained the position, which is of. groat. Importance. At one time the ener_v gained a footing-on the southern slopes, but were promptly, driven back. The whole of the hIU was in,our hands and the. positions consolidated by night fall.
