LATE MR. B. ORMONDY.
INTERMENT YESTERDAY,
The funeral of the late Mr Boulton Ormondy, which took place yesterday at Mangapai, was largely attended by the .residents of the district. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. J. H. Johnson, Anglican minister, assisted by Mr J. C. Snell, Senior LayReader in Whangarei County . and a personal friend of the deceased. Part of the service was taken at tkk. late residence of the deceased gentleman, where members of his family and inti mate friends foregathered, one of the deceased's favourite hymn '' Nearer My God to Thee," being sung. At the conclusion of the service at the graVeside the well-known hymn "Roejt of Ages was sung by all present. There were wreaths and floral emblems placed on the coffin by the hands of those who regretted the passing away of one whose familiar face will be missed. '
The late Mr Ormondy resided for upwards of half a century in Mangapai and .held the position of public • vaccinist, which office brought him in close touch with nearly every family in the district. Through , hia early training in England for. the medical profession it enabled him to be a valuable and useful settler, often rendering assistance in times of sickness or accident, in the absence of a doctor. The late. Mr Ormondy also shared the work and responsibility of public life, having represented Mangapai Riding on the Whangarei County Council and Harbour Board for some years. Be was also long associated with tho work of the Maungakaramea Eoad Board and other local institutions. The Wh&ngarei County Council was represented at tho funeral by Councillors R. Y. Kernohan, ,T. Keay, Messrs.Wm; Fraser (County Engineer), and "W A. Carruth County Solicitor. There "were also present ex-County Chairmen A. H. Mason and Q. H. Min,chin, with exCouncillors David Miller, P. C. Hilford, <T. C. Miller, and Mr J. MeKinnon (exCbunty Clerk). By his jovial and kiudly disposition the late Mr Ormondy won the esteem and good-will of all with whom he camo in contact. The death -of Mr Ormondy severs another link in- the ranks of fast disappearing pioneers who have borne the heat and burden of the day in colonising and s<?tteling the districts north of Auckland.
