POOR SNIPING.
However, for once they were disappointed. All the camp frightfully joyful. It is the flrgt time any of us have been shot at in,the open since war started, and in honour of the occasion we run two guns and two Maxims into action. The Germans shoot even worse than usual. All the old hands say that Brother Boer would have made things very unpleasant at this range.
As it is, not one shot comes near our particular gun, and after ten minutes the Germans get up and run. Apparently most of them have ponies, as they are reported as doing the John Gilpin act for a. long, way back. Then food and sleep in peace."
Three corpses reported on our little bit of target when we advcanced next morning. The annoying part of it all is that we want to get home and do some real fighting, but I suppose it is the German game to avoid fighting ana prolong things. As I heard someone say to-day: "The local German Governor won't get any Iron Crosses at all if he doesn't make some kind of show."
