SERIOUS FOR CHEMISTS.

CHRISTCHURCH, January 21

Magistrate Bailey gave judgment today in the case of Barnett and Company, chemists, charged with failing to close according to the Shops and Offices Act. He held that there was no provision for the sale of medicine or surgical appliances, even when urgently required, outside the gazetted hours. He said that the position seemed to be serious for chemists, and either a fresh requisition should be made or the Act amended. He inflicted a nominal fine of ss, without costs.
