APPEAL FOR FUNDS.

AUCKLAND, January 21

The Consul-General for Italy in Australasia has cabled to Mr Charles Rhodes consular representative for Italy in Auckland, asking him to open at once subscription lists amongst Italians and others who are willing to assist sufferers from the earthquakes in Italy.

Some. 25 towns and villages are practically destroyed and, apart from the inhabitants killed, thousands are injured and still more penniless by the absolute destruction of their properties. Help from the rest of Europe is just now almost out of the question owing to the war, but thero must be many In the countries not actually fighting who would wish to assist suffering humanity.
