VISIT OF GOVERNMENT MINERALOGIST.
"Everything comes to those who wait" is an old saying, which has : at anyrate proved true in the case of the long-promised visit of the Government Mineralogist to this district. Mr Morgan, who occupies that position, .arrived in Whangarei early this week,, and has been actively engaged in making a preliminary inspection of a number of the many and varied mineral deposits in the vicinity of Whangarei. On the 17th inst. Mr Morgan visited Messrs Harrison's coal mine, and on the. 18th he made a flying inspection of the spot at Tikorangi where Major Clark-Walker (who accompanied him> discovered the phosphate rock in 1906, and which was reputed to give a result of S7 per cent, of tricaleie phosphate, but with which nothing has so far been done. Mr Morgan, proceeded to Ruatangata on Tuesday evening, where he expects to spend a couple of days. He will probably return to Wellington at the end of the week, but intends to make a lengthy visit of investigation shortly.
