- ; The Prohibition Party held a crowded meeting in the Town Hall last night. A large proportion of the audience who were opposed to the niovegient demonstrated loudly against .the speakers, and at one stage the mayor had to call the police on to the sta^e. Mr Akinson received the best hearing. He said the "Trade had stated that Lord Kitchener bad not advised the troops to abstain from- liquor. It wci.ld be as well to. quote the exact .words.. He then . cad a statement .which included the sentences: —"Keep constantly oh guard against any excesses. In this new experience you may find temiptatiqns, both in wine and women. You must' entirely resist both .temptations." llr Atkinson averred that the "Trade" ' had faked Lord Kitchener's message. • A motion declaring the necessity of voting no-license and dominion prohibition was moved. -The chairman refused to accept an amendment, whereupon the representatives of the Moderate Party left tile hall in a body. The motion was then put and declared carried unanimously.
