Affray With Interned Germans.
SOLDIERS FIRE ON THEM,
FIVE KILLED AND 15 WOUNDED
LONDON, November 23
A regrettable affray occurred in the alien camp at Douglas. Four thousand German and Austrian civilians were interned and guarded by 300 national reservists and Manx territorials. Everything was satisfactory until the arrival ol' I lie latest batch of prisoners, when insubordination commenced, the prisoners insulting the sentries and'refusing to obey orders. Finally complaints-as to the food resulted in violent scenes in ihe dining pavilion. Knives and plates were thrown about and chairs smashed. A party of prisoners tried to rush the kitchen. A few soldiers barred the passage. The first soldier fired in the air and then found it necessary to shoot in earnest. The prisoners mostly held up their hands and others sought to tiy. Five were killed and. fifteen wounded.
