MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
A VAGRANT SENTENCED
At the Magistrate's Court this morning;, before Messrs D. P. FitzGibbon;and H. C. Hemphill, J.P.s, a man named William Thomas Jackson, who described himself as a journalist and printer, was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, being found by night on the premises of the Whangarei Hotel. Senr.-Sergt. Moore said that the accused, who pleaded guilty, had worked for a week at Limestono Island, but since then he had been loafing round the town. He had a lot of previous convictions. The accused asked for a chance, -i.nd said that he would not give any more trouble. Mr FitzGibbon pointed out that ho had been before the Court at Thames and Hamilton on a similar charge, and was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. Sergt. Moore: There are other charges, too. The accused: There is another Jackson I have been getting blamed for. Mr FitzGibbon: He will be sentenced to one month's hard labour. DRUNKENNESS. A respectably dressed, young man, a first offender, was convicted and discharged.
