THE FAR NORTH.
NKWS AND NOTES
(Special Representative)
We have had another week practically free from rain. This has been of great advantage to farmers, engaged in cropping who are in the thick of the work of putting in their crops and getting their land ready. In most cases cropping preparations are well forward.
The dairy factories are now all open and busy turning out butter. In moat cases cows are in good condition and are corning in early. The mild winter *ill have a favourable effect on the dairy industry. The country is looking at its best just now, hills and flats are an emerald green colour and fr it trees are covered in bloom.
The chief topic outside the war itself is the effect which the war will have upon the farimng community and, their industries and produce. From present indications there is no cause whatever for despondency. Horse breeders in the Far North have unique opportunities this season to secure the services of good sires, and the class of horse which is claiming the support of breeders this season should go far to establish a fine breed of horses in the Far North.
