ONERAHI TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Onerahi Town Board was held at 7.30 p.m. yesterday, when there were present: Comrs W. J. Carr (chairman), G. L. Bradshaw, H. A. James, E. Savage, and F. D. H. Ulrich.

GrahsLmtown Cemetery.—The Undersecretary of Lands wrote stating that a warrant was published in the New Zealand Gazette appointing the Onerahi Town Board to have the control and management of the Grahamtown cemetery in place of the Whangarei County Council. The town clerk reported he had received the books, plans, and papers of the cemetery from the county clerk. Sexton. —On the motion of Comrs. Bradshaw and Savage it was resolved that Mr C. H. Caitcheon be appointed sexton and caretaker of the cemetery in terms of the cemetery by-lawr

Assessment Court. —Mr G. H. Minchin wrote stating he had accepted the position of assessor for the Town Board during the sitting of the Assessment Court dealing with land valuations within the town district.—Received.

' Town Hall. —Th e chairman reported that the trustees of the Grahamtown Public Hall, were prepared to hand over to the Town Board a town hall site and a certain amount of cash from the proceeds of the sale of the old public hall, on condition that the Board erect a town hall suitable for the requirements of the district.—lt was resolved that the town clerk write to the trustees and ascertain the exact position of affairs and that a sketch plan be prepared of a suitable hall including public offices for the Board's use.

Electric Lighting.:—On the motion of th e chairman it was resolved that the Board endeavour to establish its claim for a share of the electric current for lighting and power purposes from the Wairua Falls electric scheme, as set forth in gazetted conditions of license granted to the Dominion Portland Cement Company and the Whangarei Borough Council. . ~

Office ■ Lighting.—lt was agreed that the chairman and clerk obtain suitable lamps for the Board's meeting room.

Loan for Roading Purposes.—The question of obtaining a special loan for roading the town was discussed, but consideration was deferred until the new rating rolls are available.

Kailway Station-Plateau Road. —The chairman reported that the * County Council had called tenders for the construction of a 200 : foot wide roadway from the Onerahi railway station to the

'iteau. —Membera of the Board were of opinion that the notice calling tenders was too short and that few contractors, if any, would know anything about when tenders closed, for the works. ■■'..■' Notice Boards.—On the motion of Comrs. Ulrich and James it was resolved that Mr C. H. Hill be instructed to fix notice boards in conspicuous places in the town warning picnickers and others against the destruction by fire of native trees on beaches, roads, and reserves, within the town district.

year's Estimate for Public Works.— It was resolved to defer consideration of estimates of expenditure for current year until the new assessments are available.

Accounts.—On the motion of Comrs Ulrich and James it was resolved that the accounts as read be passed for payment. The treasurer reported the Board's books and accounts were being audited by the Audit Department and should be available for the next meeting of the Board

Alteration of Date of Meeting.—On the motion of Comrs Savage and Ulrich it was resolved that the Board meet at the usual time and place on the second Monday instead of th e first Monday in each month.
