A TTEMPT TO REVIVIFY FREETRADE.
An attempt is being made to resurrect the old Freetrade Party by' an inter-State Conference, which is now sitting in Sydney. .Vigorous efforts, are being made to'attract attention, and it'is said that the Conference represents feeling in Sydney, Melr' bourne, Adelaide, and several centres of the.- State. Resolutions were carried as follows: —That, 1 this, Conference affirms the urgent ne- . cess'ity for a substantial reduction in the cost of living. To attain that end, it demands a drastic downward revision of the tariff by the abolition of customs taxes on all goods, ex-' cepting stimulants and narcotics, as an urgently necessary and effective step towards the establishment of complete freedom of exchange of labour products for- the< Australian people. That in order to make-good the loss of Federal, revenue caused, by the abolition of customs taxes, this Conference urges that the Federal Land Tax Act should be amended to abolish exemptions and grad-
uations, and to bring about the adoption of a uniform tax. on land values for the purpose of providing public revenue, , X i \
