A ROMANCE IN REAL LIFE.
Something of a romance attaches to the life story of the late Miss Jane Logan, an old lady in whose house at Glasgow was found the enormous sum of £13,000 by the executors in several receptacles, including a stocking and an old-fashioned purse bound with an 'elastic band, a fashion in vogue some thirty years ago. The house where Miss Logan and her brother, who had predeceased her, lived isa four-storey building' between Saracen Lane and East Campbell Street, Gallowgate. II was well known in the district thac the brother and sister had amassed a si"all fortune, and surprise Was , often expressed that they did not remove to more comfortable quarters. About milt way between the house and the Cross, at the corner of Spoutmouth and Gallowgate, Miss Logan and her brother", who attained the dignity of a w town councillor, carried on a fruit business for upwards of forty years, when they decided to retire, having made a fortune. Miss Logan was a little person with sharp features. She was about eighty-six years of age, and. maintained the"old-fashioned style of dress. A few years ago she figured in a pathetic little romance, possibly her only one. On her behalf an advertisement was inserted in a Glasgow newspaper saying that she wished to marry, and was the .possessor, of a considerable amount of money. No bridegrooms Were forthcoming, and -the old lady lived on, wedded-, to her leather pouch. The poor in the district %U1 miss a good friend in Miss Logan who, though a frugal liver herself, wasi not sparing of her money when there was a deserving case to be helped.
