SAMPLES FROM THE RESERVOIR.'

Two cases of enteric fever \. in the Whangarei Hospital, caused the officials of the Borough Council to make an analysis of the water in the Whangarei Reservoir, and the result .', has been a strong argufhent for the new water supply from the Maunu dis- _, trict.' ' The matter was .referred, to at the meeting of . the • Borough Council last night, when the engineer's report stated that two samples of water had been taken at the reservoir, and a third sample from a tap at the house of the District' Health-representative (Mr P. ,> Shenton). The report added that one of the reservoir samples disclosed a state of pollution, and consequently ,the auxiliary , supply had been cut off. The recommendation was added that .the reservoir should be cleaned out and flushed.

The information was received with, some surprise, and the fact was commented on that .one reservoir sample was good while the other was bad.

The matter was not discussed, but it was decided to adopt the engineer's report with the recommendation concerning the cleaning of the reservoir.
