VESSELS IN COLLISION.

HEAVY DEATH ROLL FEARED.

LONDON, Oct. 5

The steamer Gardenia collided with the collier Cornwood during a fog in the North Sea. The Gardenia sank in four minutes.

Before the boats could be lowered the boilers exploded splitting the vessel apart. Four of the crew were saved clinging to wreckage. Eighteen are mjssing| RIO DE JANIERO, Oct. 5.

A steamer collided with and sank a military tug following the manoeuvres of the fleet. It is officially stated that 32 were drowned.
