MAUNU TENNIS AND CROQUET CLUB.

The first annual meeting of the club was held in the Maunu schoolroom on Saturday, September 27.. Although the weather was not too encouraging to turn out after tea, about twenty-five members were present. Mr Wm. Beaumont occupied the chair. The secretary (Mr F. O. Barge) read the balance sheet for the past year. This.- showed that expenditures had ammounted to £17 11s 7d and receipts to £29 ss, leaving a balance in hand of £11 13s od. The following officers were then elected: —President, Mr Fallon, vice presidents, Mr Armstrong senr., and Mr McCarroll; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. C. Barge ; auditor, Mr J. Clarake; captain, Mr J. Hay ward; vice captain, Mr O. Beaumont; selecting committee, Messrs Hayward, O. Beaumont, Reynolds, Clarke, Mesdames Hayward, Clarke and Barge, three being given power to act; working committee Messrs Hayward, O. Beaumont, F. O. Barge, H. Millington and McCarroll; ladies' committee, Mesdames Hayward, Fallon, Barge, McCarroll, and Clarke. ! The members fee for the coming season will be 7/6 for men and 5/ for ladies. On October 18 the club will open the season on the three new courts on Mr Seccombe's property. In addition to the three new tennis courts, a new croquet lawn has also been made. As there is still a good deal of work to be done at the courts, a working bee has been arranged for on Saturday next, October 4. A cordial vote of thanks was accorded to the lady members who had arranged for the euchre parties which were held during the winter months. A vote of thanks was also accorded to the ladies who had assisted in giving the supper for the dance held in the Maungatapere Hall, and to the gentlemen who did the decorating and had brought the dance to a success,. Also a vote of thanks was accorded to the secretary for carrying out the work of the tennis club during the past season.
