THE SOMALILAND AFFAIR.

LONDON, Oct 2

A Blue Book dealing with the recent Somaliland disaster shows that Mr Harcourt (Secretary of State for the Colonies) disapproved splitting up the camel corps on an extended sphere of operations.

Colonel Archer, the Acting Commissioner, testified to Major Corfleld's bravery and energy, but reluctantly charged him with committing a rash act involving the Protectorate Government in a severe set back.

Mr Harcourt, commenting on the evidence, states that the disaster was due to Major Corfield's complete disregard of instructions.

Colonel Archer has been gazetted a Companion of St. Michael and St. George in recognition of his work with the relief expedition.
