COUNCIL TAKES ACTION.

NOT GOING TO EXTREMES."

The following telegram was sent yesterday by Mr J. S. Dent, deputyMayor, to Mr Mander, M.P. for the district; also to the Minister for Public Health (the Hon. R. H. Rhodes), and the chief of the Health Department (Dr Valintine) :— "On behalf of the Borough Council and citizens of Whangarei I desire to protest against the unwarrantable restrictions the Department of Public Health suggest imposing upon persons travelling from Whangarei to Auckland. There has been only one case of epidemic in Whangarei 'borough and adjacent townships and settlements, and that two months ago; and stringent measures are now adopted to keep contacts from infected areas out of town. If desired to stop contacts from travelling suggest stationing officer here acting in conjunction with police to control traffic, empowered to examine persons desiring to travel, and to discriminate between those from affected and clean areas."
