A DISINGENUOUS CADET.

MELBOURNE, Aug. 27.

A cadet, who is also Secretary to the Freedom League, charged with failing to attend drill, pleaded that as a Christian he could have nothing to do with military training. He said he washed to follow Christ's teachings, which were against military activity and claimed liberty under the Union Jack which gave freedom of speech and action to all.

The magistrate, in ordering the culprit into military custody, asked "How is the Union Jack kept flying, by principles such as yours, or the' preparedness for war?" The young man charged. quoted Queen Victoria's assertion that the Bible was the secret of England's greatness.
