HOCKEY MATTERS.

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.

The Executive Committee of the Whangarei Hockey Association met last night, Mr W. A. Carruth presiding. , Letters from Auckland were read in connection with the Auckland provincial cup matches for ladies, to be played on September 6th and following days. It was decided to send a team from Whangarei, the sum of £10 being voted towards the expenses. Mr R. Lupton was appointed sole selector. It was agreed to inform the Mt. Eden Club that a visit from their team would be accepted, the match to be played here on September 13, Messrs A. L. Dixon, A. G. Baddiley, and F. Murdoch being appointed to select the Whangarei representatives. It was decided to charge admission to the ground for the Mt. Eden match, and -the semi-final and final competitions of the local clubs. In regard to the proposed visit of an Auckland representative junior team, who desired to play Whangarei on September 20th, it was decided to write to Auckland explaining that owing to the heavy financial demands on the Association during the season the guarantee of £10 asked for would not be forthcoming, but Whangarei would be very pleased to play Auckland if the team were sent. Mr Baddiley, manager of the team who annexed the White Horse trophy in Auckland, handed in a report of the visit. This was accepted, satisfaction having be-ing expressed at the success of Whangarei, and the manner in which the team was controlled. It was ordered that the report be included in the official records of the Association. The draw for the semi-final and final games in the men's competitions was made. It resulted in Grahamtown being drawn to meet the winners of the Thursday competition at Whangarei next Saturday; the winners of that round to play Mangapai at Whangarei on the following Saturday. It was stipulated, however, that the draw would depend on the fourth round of the Thursday competition being dropped; that in the event of Tamahana losing to-mor-row to United, and thus making both teams level, they would have to play another match before the fixtures could be carried out. ,
