AN IMPERIAL COUNCIL.
ADVOCATED BY EX-PREMIER SCHREINER. NO DIVISION IX IMPERIAL ' MATTERS. CAPETOWN, Aug. 25. Mr W. P. Schreiner, ex-Premier, in a speech delivered at a banquet last night/said he hoped the Imperial Council would become an established fact. The problems of Empire could then be laid before the Common Council of the Motherland and the Dominions, and they would then get to know more of each other's needs and circumstances, which was essential for the upkeep of the spirit of the Empire
South Africa was true to the ideal of the Empire, and though possessing its own peculiar problems, recognised its responsibilities.
In regard to the navy, Mr Schreiner emphasised that the separate navies of Canada and Australia did not indicate a desire to be divided in Imperial matters.
