MATAPOURI.
(From Our Own Correspondent) AUGUST IS. The work on the Cliff Road round the rocks is progressing well, but it is very doubtful if the road will be completed this winter. One of the men working on the road gave the opinion that there was another good winter's work yet. to be done before it could be opened for traffic. THE CHICKEN-POX. We are glad to report that none of the infection has reached us here in Matapouri, but a very amusing incident occurred in connection with it here last week. A party of men were working just off the road, and their horses were grazing between them and the road. In the morning some Maori men came riding past, and one of the men at work then shouted out to his horse to come away, as the chicken-pox was coming along the road. SUNDAY SCHOOL. A Sunday school has been started here in our midst by the schoolmaster. A young lady is helping, and is taking the infants, for whom a sand tray has been built. This is a thing that has been long wanted, and it is hoped that the settlers will do all in their power to aid this good work. CHURCH. Mr. W. H. Holloway held service here in the school on Sunday evening.
