INSTRUCTIONS TO MAORIS.

A schedule of instructions to members of the Maori Council and to all the village committees has been issued with the object of assisting them to combat the disease. The instructions draw attention to the following:— (1) Simple remedy for the disease—hot baths with Jeyes' fluid and application of eucalyptus and olive oil after the bath. (2) All bad cases to be immediately sent in to the hospital—not to be afraid of the payment—money not considered. (3) 'If provisions cannot be procured from local storekeepers to at once advise secretary of Maori Council through the chairnian of the Village Committee, and steps will be immediately taken to see that the people do not starve. (4) On no* account must any native be allowed to visit friends. By adhering to this instruction the spread of the disease will be lessened. (5) Anyone taking the disease should be at once placed in a separate whare or tent and the proper person to nurse such person is one who has already had the disease. (6) If further Information is required as to the mode of treatment to; ring up the hospital and the doctor there will give all instructions. In addition to the above, special instructions have been issued to the Village Committees re cleanliness of houses and surroundings, the washing and boiling of clothing, the immediate burying of the dead and the preventing of tangis.
