ARISTOCRATIC TROUBLES.
" LEST I BECOME PLEBIAN,"
The Countess Montenegnoso, formerly the Crown Princess Louisa of Saxony, and Signora Toselli will shortly publish another book of autobiography. " The book is still my own story, she confided the other day to an Italian writer, " a revelation of my own soul in the guise of fiction. In my new book I describe Italy's beauties athwart my own personal impressions. Very strange ones they are, as you will agree when you read them, l'm such a funny person; and do you know, I don't yet know myself well?
" I am impulsive, 'tis true, but I'm also capricious. I never repent. And so my life is very varied, and, for me at least, so worth while living. People accuse me of being shifty in my loves; that's true. But I should have been otherwise had I encountered a strong man of iron will who knew how to dominate me. Alas! 1 have come across only vulgar bourgeois weaklings. That's the why and the wherefore of my feverish quest after the happiness to which I, too, have a right. " If," added the princess with a sigh, " those who sought my acquaintance and friendship had put it out of their minds that I was Princess of Saxony, and treated me simply as a woman, then, perhaps, I, too, should have enjoyed my good share in life and in love. As things are, I travel and travel in a frenzy to distract, myself; and my greatest horror in life is lest 1 should become plebian."
