DESERTED HUSBAND'S SCHEME.
Asnieres, the popular suburb of Paris, has been the scene of an amusing adventure between husband and wife. The husband, having been deserted by his better half, tried to recapture her disguised as a burglar. For several months they had not been able to agree, and madame one morning . quietly disappeared from the villa while her husband was asleep. He made a persevering search for her in the neighbourhood, and discovered some weeks later that she would take fright if he called during the daytime. He had the absurd idea of entering the villa at night, dressed for all the world like a burglar. He climbed over a high wall, nearly broke his leg as he jumped into the garden, and groaned. The wife heard the mysterious groans in the garden, promptly took a revolver, and fired out of the window in the dark. Strangely enough the bullet struck her husband in the face. The neighbours heard the shots and the wounded man's further groans, and broke into the place followed by a police commissaire. The husband, wounded, was taken to a hospital, where he is waiting to be reconciled to his wife, who is taking her time to reconsider the matter.
