INCREASE IN CASES.

SYDNEY, Aug. 22. There is an increase of smallpox coincident with the cold snap.

Vaccination steadily progresses, though there is no rush. The improved quality of the lymph and the

experience gained by operators have rendered the operation less fearsome, and there are but few bad reactions. Three of yesterday's smallpox cases had previously been unsuccessful'y vaccinated, and declined to have the operation repeated.
